Understanding How New-Majority Students Engage with Degree Planning Technologies

An in-depth study on how current degree progress and tracking tools fall short of meeting the needs of Black, Latinx, Indigenous and low-income (BLI/LI) students.

Students rely on planning and scheduling tools to help them register for the right courses at the right time, and stay on track to a degree. Technology providers have designed tools intended to meet this need and help students achieve their educational goals, and yet, research to-date shows that current advising, planning and scheduling products have not improved student progression and completion rates. We undertook this study to analyze why this might be the case, and provide recommendations for future solutions.
