Bringing Equity Forward in the Design of Developmental Education Placement Approaches
Despite efforts to reform developmental education placement, equity gaps persist in broad-access institutions, often reinforced by systemic biases in traditional practices. In Fall 2023, we explored next-generation placement reforms at 15 colleges nationwide, uncovering a gap between recognizing equity issues and implementing equity-forward solutions. This brief outlines three key components of equity-focused design to help institutions move from awareness to action, creating more inclusive and effective placement systems.
